So many songs have also helped to inspire stories. My stories. And today, I'm going to share some of the music by Canadian artists and bands that provide inspiration for me.
One day, while cleaning the family room, I was listening to my mp3 player, and Spaceman by Bif Naked came on. I plotted out an entire story that morning, pausing in my cleaning to jot down notes. And those notes became ALIEN ADORATION.
Another band I've listened to for years is Econoline Crush. And it was their song Psychotic that I listened to over and over while writing NEVER GONNA SAY GOODBYE, the third book in The Underground dystopian series.
Spirit Indestructible by Nelly Furtado was also a huge inspiration throughout writing all of The Underground series.
What's big on my playlist right now? That would be Crazy for You by Hedley. Doesn't matter what I'm writing, I can't get enough of this song. And as a sidenote, I voted for Jacob Hoggard, the lead singer of Hedley, back when he was on Canadian Idol.
There are so many great Canadian singers, songwriters and bands. Do you have a favorite?
Jessica E. Subject is the author of contemporary and science fiction romance, ranging from sweet to sexy. In her stories, you could meet clones, or a sexy alien or two. You may even be transported to another planet for a romantic rendezvous. And if you’re looking for something really steamy, check out her erotica stories written as Paisley Brown.
When Jessica isn’t reading, writing, or doing dreaded housework, she likes to get out and walk. Fast. But she just may slow down if there is a waterfall nearby.
Jessica lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband and two energetic children. And she loves to hear from her readers.
When I traveled about Canada I discovered a great deal of 'organic' singers I thought were superb. Oddly, though, my fav song is by your fabulous spaceman.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, Chris Hadfield is a great singer, too. I'm saving him for a later post. :)
DeleteI do indeed, but my are likely to be found on the country music charts. Artists like Dean Brody, Gord Bamford, But the one with the most songs on my playlists is Johnny Reid. Love his voice!
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree. Johnny Reid is a great singer! And nice to look at, too. :)
DeleteGreat post Jessica! As you know I just saw Hedley in concert the other night.. NOTHING is as good as seeing that band in Concert. LOVED him myself on CDN Idol but he's done so much better than he could have as the Idol I think.
ReplyDeleteI've met Johnny Reid 3x -- no man smells as good as he does!!! LOL A gentle soul he is.
And George Canyon is one of my son's mentors because of Type 1 Diabetes. George comes through here a lot and visit our Diabetic Clinic -- George is a superb and kind individual. I love the timber of his voice when singing.
Michael Buble plays a lot on my stereo when writing. Especially when I get to the end of a book. His feel good vibe that comes through his songs is perfect for the happy moments.
You're right, Kacey. He has gone much farther than he could have if he won the show. I'm glad he went back with his band and they've done so well.
DeleteOh, now you have me wanting to smell Johnny Reid. LOL
So many great Canadian artists, and it's wonderful to have such talent in our country. :)
Some of my faves are home-grown talent. I could listen to Blue Rodeo, Suzie MacNeill and Chantal Kreviazuk for hours and not get tired. You've got some awesome choices here too. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat choices as well, Rosanna! I've been listening to Chantal Kreviazuk since Under These Rocks and Stones. Love her music! :-)
DeleteGreat post! Sometimes I go for the 80's stuff when writing, and listen to home-grown groups/singers, April Wine, Frozen Ghost, Corey Hart, Gowan, Platinum Blonde, Kim Mitchell, Red Ryder, Rush, and Toronto! Love Canadian music :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Karyn! Gosh, I wish I could list all Canadian music artists in a post, but it would take too long. All wonderful choices! :-)
DeleteActually I just saw an arcadian band from Prince Edward Island called Vishten. They were really good! They are officially my fav Canadians!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm definitely going to have to check them out. :)
DeleteMy favorite Canadian artists would have to be: Sarah MacLachlan, Alanis Morrisette, Chantal Kreviazuk,
ReplyDeleteThose are great choices, too, Layna! I have CDs from two of those artists. :)
