ReplyDeleteMy favorite would have to be Santa presents. See, we have 3 daughters, with 2 still believing in Santa. Christmas Eve we open the presents to each other, mainly clothes from us. Christmas morning we all wake to unwrapped gifts from Santa. My husband and I also have some, we have to be on the nice list too. Seeing the girls' faces and shock at what they get is amazing. We normally have a video camera set up just for those first expressions, we make them wait in the hall after we wake to set it up. We have one of those digital photo frames and we put it out at Thanksgiving and keep it out until New Years, with pictures from past Christmases and that first moment Christmas morning is a favorite to anyone that sees it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance! Merry Christmas!
Food!
ReplyDeleteOne of our traditions is to make each other in the family their gifts. I belong to a very creative family with an artist, a couple of knitters, and some sewers. My sons make furniture and other fashionable items. so we always try to make the most interesting gifts.

ReplyDeleteMy favourite tradition is a family one. At 11am on Christmas morning we raise a toast of "To the family, where ever they may be". This is because my father's family had been forces people for generations and could be anywhere in the world on Christmas day. When I married my husband, and later on the children joined me in the tradition.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas Tradition is: Our holiday season starts the day after Thanksgiving as we go to out of town family members homes for each holiday celebration but the week before Christmas, we make a schedule of all the family close by, assign them a Christmas Song and each evening we visit the homes on the schedule to see their tree, sing a song, and enjoy a treat (exchanging presents if needed) ending in our immediate family time on Christmas Eve where the children unwrap their presents and then head to bed to dream of sugarplums and Santa and then the exciting morning of Christmas listening to all the excited chatter of family and friends as we gather for a huge Christmas dinner!

ReplyDeleteDecorating the Christmas tree is always a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI love just about any type of Christmas lights, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would traditional "calm & steady". My Mom and I had a tradition of loading up our dogs in the car one night each holiday season to go see the Christmas lights throughout the area. Mom and I would sing holiday songs at the top of our voices, and the dogs were a captive audience. We always ended the evening with a trip to the ice cream store! Mom got eggnog ice cream; I got peppermint candy cane ice cream, and the dogs got vanilla! By the way, occasionally our singing did set the dogs off, and then there was howling and singing. Happy Holidays, Everyone!!!

ReplyDeleteWe have a tradition of making fruitcakes at Christmas time. It is not like the store bought ones (can't stand those things)! My Daddy, son & his girlfriends will mix everything up by hand. We grind up Graham crackers & put it in a big bowl. We chop up pecans & walnuts & put it in the bowl. We cut up Maraschino cherries in half & put them & some of the cherry juice in the bowl. We squeeze a fresh orange & sometimes tangerine & pour it in the bowl & mix it together along with raisins. Mama uses a double boiler & puts a can of Carnation condensed milk & marshmellows on stove & melts them & pours some in the bowl & they will mix it up until there aren't any dry spots. We take small bowls (we use empty bowls like jello molds) & spray Pam in them & put them in the refrigerator. They need to stay in there for a day before you cut it.
ReplyDeleteWe make several batches (we make 25 to 50 small cakes a year each year. We also make a couple big ones (they weigh about 25 lbs. we put them in a bunt pan. It take $200 - $500 dollars for the ingredients we need. You don't have to make that many but we give them to friends & family for Christmas.
We don't really have a tradition other than opening gifts on Christmas day but other than that Christmas is pretty much just like any other day in our house.
ReplyDeleteI love decorating the house!
