Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! 


It's been a long, hot summer in Ontario this year. We have all been praying for rain. Many people we know have been suffering from low water levels, to running out of water, and thank goodness that we finally have had a full day of really good rain. Even as I type this post, it's a steady stream of rain and it has broken the heat wave, plus it smells glorious through the open windows. I'm thrilled to see the rain. I doubt we will get second cuts from our hay fields this year but it's so great to see a bit of relief. Farm life can be difficult but I appreciate everything that myself and my family has been given. The piggies are doing great though -- major hungry buggers. LOL

I've been trying to get back to my walks with Peaches. It's been so dreadfully hot I've mainly been using the treadmill indoors, but a couple days ago it was a cooler day so i took advantage of it. It's been so warm, the best thing to do is of course stay in and write! I'm moving very steadily toward the end of the 2nd Canadian Muscle story and loving it like mad. It is wonderful revisiting old characters, and introducing readers to others.

Currently it's all about back to school shopping! I have 2 boys -- ages 14 & 17 -- one in his last year of high school, the other just starting! It's hard to believe how fast time goes! My daughter, my oldest, finished her nursing course in June, and got the first job in her chosen profession and starts there next month!! Life is very, very good.

Next month at this time, I'll be in London, Ontario at the Ignite Your Soul Event/Book Signing. HERE is more information about that book signing. If you're in the area, I'd love to see you there. I'm looking forward to seeing fellow Canadian Style Blog authors at the event too -- Tricia Daniels, Kayleigh Malcolm & Kali Willows.

Good morning all. Just when I thought my world was warming up a bit last weekend (weekend of Feb 6 & 7th) -- see no snow around Peaches...

Was gorgeous weather!!

Then, a cold snap came through that had me wishing I was a bear with the ability to hibernate!! Even driving Son #1 to work those cold mornings and afternoons was exhausting and bitter. I hate snow!! I was born on a night --- mmm blah blah years ago --- in the midst of a cold and frigid snow storm, and I really dislike winter! So why do I live in Canada, right? There's no place like home where my family is!

But I digress, with the cold snap came a lot of writing, which I've started to doubt will remain in my current WIP. The 3,600 words may not pass muster, there's just something "wrong" about some of them and it's quite disappointing when that happens. A lot of energy and time go into writing a first draft -- blood, sweat and tears -- and I dislike deleting chunks like this. I think my heart and mind just weren't in it. All this cold weather, family drama around me has turned me even more introverted than I already was.

Thankfully I have Lily, Peaches, as well as new babies -- Sam and Dean (my hedgehogs) to keep me positive and smiling. I also have my Daughter's hedgie here for a few days (Jax), while she's not in school this week.

Lily's just been "fixed", which is nice now -- no more in heat cries of torture for her. LOL
Peaches is as cute and cuddly as always. And the hedgies are about a week away from their mom and doing great.

But I have the mid February -- mid winter -- blues that I'm struggling to kick. Hubs and I should take a long Caribbean vacation until the weather turns. Though I'm not sure I'd be able to find enough sunscreen to keep me from turning into a lobster...another blog post entirely!!! LOL

December 1st...another year nearly over and snow has already been dumped -- by the bucket load -- in some areas. Here in my area, we've been lucky so far (*knocks on wood*) and haven't had a lot but it did come early. Frigid temps have kept me inside under the blankets and reading some great stories. 

But, my sweet Peaches, seems to enjoy the snow. She's been adventurous and excited outside. Here's a few pix of the snow at home. And Peaches enjoying herself...

And in wanting to be inside myself, cozy and warm with a lot of heat and a hot chocolate in hand, I know many others want to do the same. So, how about a Christmas story set in Niagara Falls??

As the holidays approach, I hope everyone takes a few minutes for themselves. With all the hustle and bustle, we some times forget that it is very important to remember what is important ... family, friends, love and laughter.

Crazy Summertime Weather....

I don't like complaining about weather, especially after the terrible winter we had. But lately the up and down weather in my city has kept us on our toes. We've had more rain than any summer in the past that I can remember. There has been some very humid days though -- up to 94% humidity 3 days in a row, then a pile of rain for 4 days thereafter.

As a farmer, I don't mind there's been extra rain this year, my hay fields are blossoming -- though we haven't had enough dry weather to get it cut and bailed -- and there's my one tomato garden that drowned, which is very disappointing. In the area the garden is, with normal amounts of rain it's a perfect lower location for a lot of moisture but with the volumes of rain we've had, water sat for over a week last month because it never stopped and drowned about 70% of my tomato plants. The weight of the rain is also pushing on the hay fields. As you can see in the pic below, some of the hay is lying over on it's side. I'll need a few sunny and warm days to "pick it back up" and dry it out in order to cut and bail it.

    
But I have been able to get some writing done out under the shade trees on the nicer days. There's another Mustang story in the "Revved and Ready" series on the way. My trees are in full bloom and the breeze is gorgeous out here in my country corner, and so nice in fact that I've refused to drive into town some days for anything! Gets too hot in town where there's really no breeze because no trees and the heat from the asphalt is horrid. 

And of course, my partner in crime -- Peaches -- has joined me outside, inspiring words of course as she sleeps! LOL

 
 

Plus I've gotten caught up in the cows grazing the fields out front, benefiting from the rain which helps them out with gorgeous greens to feast on.


I hope everyone's had better weather than we have here. My kid's are anxious to get to the beach. Of course on the days that the sun is out and it's warm enough are days when things are already planned with sports, family and/or friends.


But at least I am lucky enough to work from home, be with the kids and write like the wind while they're all busy. I know not every mom/author can say that. So I'll take the good weather with the bad, cross my fingers my hay crop is going to be great this year when I know a few homesteads where the crop hasn't been great, and continue to count my blessings. 

Rain or no rain, life goes on.
