Yay, there's only 6 more weeks of winter! Post by Jessica E. Subject & Giveaway!

Hello everyone! It's great to be a part of this blog with some of my other Canadian Romance Authors! :)

As I write this post, it is snowing outside. Again. And I just shoveled!

While snow is part of winter in Canada, I don't remember having snow banks this high since I was a child. Last winter we barely had any snow, which hurt the farmers' crops around here. But not only have we had a lot of snow fall, we've also had record breaking temperatures. As in, it's free-zing! Now, these temps seem to happen every five years based on my daughter's life (her first winter, winter in kindergarten, and this year).

Do I include winter in any of my stories? Rarely. Actually, I try to avoid writing about winter. Though, I have included this c-c-cold season in some of my stories.

Celestial Seduction - takes place in Ottawa during the winter
Sudden Breakaway - takes place at a hockey game
Accidental Romance - starts during the fall harvest and continues over Christmas
Hey, Santa - takes place just before Christmas

So, yes, there is winter and snow in my stories. I think I write these stories over the summer when it's really hot. That time of year, I wish for days like this. But, right now, I'm dreaming of blue skies and spring flowers.

Ghost towns of Ontario in my Erotic Romances!

Hi! I'm Jan Springer and I write erotic romances.

Some of my stories are set in Canada. But first, before we begin, I would like to welcome you to Romance Eh? Canadian Style. Here we are going to focus on everything Canadian!! Wooot!

The very first erotic romantic suspense I wrote is "Peppermint Creek Inn" (Ellora's Cave). If you enjoy amnesia style romances, you may like this one. It has a mystery surrounding the true Ontario ghost town of Jackfish. When I speak of "ghost towns" I don't mean haunted, but instead we call them abandoned towns. Jackfish is one of many abandoned towns in Ontario.

Peppermint Creek Inn
Here's a sneak peek at Peppermint Creek Inn - Book 1 of my Undercover series.

She wants to forget her past

Sara lives alone in the isolated wilderness of Canada…until one stormy night when an injured fugitive with amnesia forces his way into her home and straight into her wounded heart. He's dangerous, tastes of dark, delicious sex and unleashes lusty cravings she never knew she had. Although there can be no future with a sexy man accused of murder, she's willing to do whatever it takes to keep him in her life and in her bed.

He needs to remember his past

She smells of sweet peppermint and makes him burn with hot desire. He wants her, needs to be deep inside her and yearns to forget the terror-filled flashbacks that haunt him. Crooked cops and a romantic ghost town hold the secrets to his mysterious past, and if he's ever going to give her a future they both crave, he'll have to prove his innocence, even if it means facing his dangerous past head on.*

My dad and I first came upon the ghost town of Jackfish in 1995 when we were exploring ghost towns of Ontario. I hadn't seriously began writing yet, but it was during my visit to this particular abandoned town about 22 miles east of Terrace Bay, Ontario that I began to think about writing a story that would center around this town. I kept notes and began writing scenes for the book. I finished it in 1998 and by 2000 it was published as an ebook on the Internet.

I then started on another story, a sequel to Peppermint Creek Inn, which would also have a ghost town...but I will save that story intro for my next visit to Romance Eh? Canadian Style. *grin*

If you want to get a look at the before and after pictures of the ghost town of Jackfish there is a lovely You Tube video someone made when they visited the ghost town. It will give you an idea of what I saw when the seed of Peppermint Creek Inn was born. You Tube link to Jackfish.

Next time I will introduce you to the Ontario ghost town of Nicholson found in "Kiss Me" (Ellora's Cave) - sequel to Peppermint Creek Inn.

Happy Reading!

Shapeshifters in Canada

I bet you didn't know we have a thriving shapeshifter subculture right here in the Great White North. Surprise! We do. At least in some of my books.

The most common advice an author hears is write what you know. Sound advice especially when you're having to situate a story somewhere and you're unfamiliar with the geography. For the most part, I'm pretty vague in my work about setting. I keep the details generic, but in a few of my stories, I name actual locations. And several of them are in Ontario, Canada!

Probably my most well known series is my Freakn' Shifters which is based in the Ottawa valley area. Naomi, and her gaggle of brothers, along with her parents and BFF, all live and work in the area. Knowing roads and the general area definitely made adding those personal touches to scenery much easier. And for the things I wasn't sure of, Google search was my best friend :)

But this rambunctious group of shapeshifters isn't the only set of stories to get a Canadian home. Mated To The Devil also has a Canadian locale, this time in the Quebec through to the Ontario region. For those out west, don't feel left out. His Teddy Bear takes place in the Rockies, in a little town called Jasper. Tons of shifters in those parts lol.

So if you like to see a bit of Canada in your reading (like PVR instead of DVR) and references to poutine or beavertails, along with the occasional 'eh' thrown in, then be sure to check out some of my stories. Or even better, say hello to me in the comments or on Facebook. Until then, happy reading, eh?!

Eve Langlais is a Canadian mom who works full time as an author. In between juggling her three kids, hubby, and housework, she pens steamy romance--usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens. Eve loves to write, and while she doesn't always know what her mind will create next, she can promise it will be fun, probably humorous and most of all romantic, because she loves a HEA.

Jan Springer writes erotic romances and erotica at her NO (north office) nestled on four acres of paradise in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario, Canada and at her SO (south office) in Oshawa Ontario.
She is published with Ellora’s Cave, Spunky Girl Publishing. Siren BookStrand, Totally Bound, Pocket Books and other publishers. She is a member of Romance Writers of America and Passionate Ink. Hobbies include kayaking, hiking, gardening and photography.

Avid Reader. Romance Author. Redhead…
Canadian-born author, Kacey Hammell is definitely a book-a-holic, who began reading romances at a young age and became easily addicted.  These days, as a multi-published erotic romance author, she enjoys adding a lot of heat, sass and emotion to the Contemporary Romances she writes.
A mom of three, Kacey has made certain each of her children know the value of the written word and the adventures they could escape on by becoming book-a-holics in their own right. She lives her own happily ever after with her perfect hero in Ontario, Canada, and is a true romantic at heart.

Karyn Gerrard lives in a small town in the western corner of Ontario, Canada. She wiles away her spare time writing and reading romance while drinking copious amounts of Earl Grey tea. As long as she can avoid being hit by a runaway moose in her wilderness paradise she assumes everything is golden. Karyn’s been happily married for a long time to her own hero. His encouragement keeps her moving forward.

A multi-published author with a few best-sellers under her belt, Karyn loves to write in different genres and time periods. Tortured heroes are a must. Her publishers include Ellora's Cave, Decadent Publishing, and Crimson Romance.

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Layna discovered her love of reading at an early age. When she isn’t devouring salacious romance novels or writing, she enjoys losing herself in researching ancient history and mythology, weaponry, and hiking. She lives in Northern Ontario, with her husband and two daughters.
Layna is a member of the Romance Writers of America, and is a monthly contributor at 69 Shades of Smut.

Stacey Espino resides in beautiful Ontario, Canada with her husband and five children. She loves being a Canadian but could do without the brutal winters.

She enjoys writing erotic romance that will have you squirming in your seat. From hardcore cowboys to alpha shifters, she has you covered!

Stacey also writes alternative m/m romance as Winona Wilder.
