That's Amore...No, That Canadian!

I never really think about things that are solely Canadian. I mean here in North America we eat similar food...except for down the south where they eat things like 'Gator. LOL We don't have those scary things up here, (and I'm totally okay with that. lol) But, we have poutine which is a gift from the gods. :)

To be honest I never really thing about the things that are truly "ours" until someone mentions it. Usually my editor...those comment bubbles always make me laugh. Like when I was asked what a"hydro bill" is because in the US they just refer to it is as the electric bill.

During my edits for my last book I got a bubble comment about a drink one of my characters was drinking..I'd just referred to it as a Caesar.
Did you know The Bloody Caesar is a Canadian thing!

The Classic Caesar

WAAAAAAAAAAT?
I don't think I've ever been more surprised. Way back in my bartending days I made a gazillion of them and it never dawned on me that this was a canuck creations. For those of you who are unfamiliar a Bloody Caesar is like a Bloody Mary but you swap out the Tomato Juice for Clamato Juice.
How something like this is created up here I have no idea. I mean clams might be popular on the far east and west coasts but when I hear about clams I think about the American East coast.

After a bit of research I found that it was created by a mane named Walter Chell in 1969 in Calgary Alberta. (dead center of the country and no where near where you'd find clams. lol) This drink was created to celebrate the opening of a new Italian restaurant. Inspired by Spaghetti alle vongole (Spagetti, Tomato Sauce and Clams) a dish from Venice, Italy.

So there you have it. In case you are feeling inspired this summer and want to try this incredibly popular drink, here's the recipe.

Ingredients:
  • 1 oz (30 mL) vodka
  • 2 dashes hot sauce
  • 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 grinds fresh cracked salt and pepper
  • 4 oz (120 mL) Mott’s Clamato Cocktail
Preparation:
  1. Rim a highball glass with citrus and celery salt
  2. Fill the glass to the top with ice.
  3. Add the ingredients in the order listed.
  4. Stir well to mix the cocktail, and garnish with a celery stalk and a lime wedge.

Everyone has their favourite way to have a caesar, What do you do to make yours unique?

Join me and we'll raise a couple Casears to celebrate my upcoming release...

Cold enough for ya? by Kayleigh Malcom

Talking about the weather in Canada is a national past time. If it's not the frigid windchills of the Winter, than it's the humidity of the Summer.

There's jokes about it... We have two seasons here in Southern Ontario....winter and construction.

It can also be the focus of competition across the country. Remember when the Mayor of Toronto called in  the Military to help dig out the city after a snowfall that people in Alberta get on a regular basis.

This year is was cold enough that Niagara Falls froze over! Well froze over as much as it can. When you have one great lake emptying into another great lake there is enough water pressure to ensure that it's not completely solid, the water is still flowing under all that ice. Makes for beautiful pictures when the coloured lights come on at night.
(image via Elvir k / used under Flickr Creative Commons)

I've always maintained the rule that you can only bitch about the cold or the heat. Not both. Personally, I don't say a single negative thing about the heat and humidity. That way I can moan and complain all winter long and winter is soooooo long.

The only redeeming feature of this bone chilling part of the year is the liquid gold we are able to create. Oh, yeah! I'm talking IceWine. :)

Photo from winerack.com
If you've never heard of it before, it's a unique wine created in cold climates. Personally I think the Niagara region is the best. (completely admitting that I might be bias here. lol)

Grapes are allowed to hang on the vine long after traditional harvest times, allowed to freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw, freeze and when the temperature drops to -8 and the grapes have reached the perfect balance of acid and sugar they are harvested. Gathered by hand, at night and then the rock hard little pellets are crushed allowing a thick rich concentrated syrup to escape. A 375ml bottle of icewine requires ten times the amount of grapes required to make a 750ml bottle or regular wine. That means it carries a hefty price tag but a little goes a long way.

Photo from newswire.ca
There are two main varieties that are used to make white. Vidal (my personal favourite) which is vibrant and lively. Riesling which is elegant and subtle. Common flavours you find in ice wine are ripe peaches, apricots, lychee and honeycomb.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are becoming more common and have all the flavours of the whites with an added note of berries and sometimes rhubarb.

Curling up in front of a fire, (or a video of one on the tv) with someone you care about, a bottle of icewine, some chocolate, dried fruit, nuts, and some strong cheese and you have the start to a decadent evening. How decadent depends on you ;)

But, not even Icewine could redeem the horrendous weather we've been pelted with and when the lock froze on my husband's car for the third time he announced that it was time for a vacation. We're headed to a grown-ups only vacation in Mexico. I can't wait to get a new sugar skull to add to my collection!

If you could go anywhere to escape where would it be? (Dream vacations are limited only by your imagination...don't be trapped by reality)

Write your dream vacation in the comments below.

When I get home, I'll draw one lucky winner from the comments and send them a surprise I'll bring back from my trip.

When Amadora wins a trip to a Mexican resort, she contacts Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service to live out a one-time fantasy—a night with two hot men.

Meeting Amy forces them both to reevaluate their relationship and consider more than one night as a threesome. When her life is threatened, can the three of them accept the risk to their hearts and take a chance on the love they all crave?

Interview with an alien ~ Find out how this E.T. spent his first Christmas on Earth + a recipe

Happy Holidays! Only ten more days until Christmas!

Have you ever wondered how the characters from your favorite stories spend the holidays? Well, a while back, I interviewed Frey Berger, the sexy alien from my debut release, CELESTIAL SEDUCTION. And he just happened to reveal how he spent his very first Christmas on Earth. Enjoy!

Jessica: I’d like to welcome Frey Berger here to talk about how he celebrates the holidays. He is originally from the planet Ginnun and has had to make quite the adjustment learning Earth cultures.

Frey: Actually, it wasn’t that hard. I was trained by the Space Service to adapt to different cultures. It was my job to learn as much as I could about a planet before leaving for the next. Except, this time I never left the planet I was sent to observe. I left the Space Service instead.

Jessica [flummoxed by the gorgeous man in front of her]: Yes, you were a field informant for the Space Service. So, tell us what your first December was like on Earth.

Frey: Cold. I was dropped off in an open field just outside of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on the first day of winter. Snow blew everywhere, and my contacts were late picking me up due to the weather.

When they finally arrived, I could barely move. Every part of me was frozen. They took me to my lodging, warmed me up and gave me a money card so that I could buy appropriate clothing. Of course, I had to perfect this human holographic image I wear on Earth first.

Getting said clothing was an adventure. I rushed to the nearest clothing store, part of what is called a mall, and searched for the items on the list I’d been given. What I didn’t expect was the chaos all around me. People shoved me out of the way with their bags and I even had a personal transport cart run over my foot. Somehow I escaped that store and ended out in the hallway, another crowded avenue. But through all of the pandemonium, I heard a loud, belly laugh and had to know where it came from. In the middle of a gathering of people, including many small children, a man in a red suit with a long, white beard sat smiling. And his joy seemed to rub off on those around him. So many others in the mall were wearing parts of the suit as well; hats and pants... When I came across a store selling the same suit, I bought one. After all, a coat, snowpants, hat, gloves and boots were on my list…

I walked around for five days in that outfit, kids coming up to me to tell me what they wanted the man named Santa Claus to bring them for Christmas. They seemed to know I was not the real Santa Claus but thought somehow I could relay their message to him. My Earth contacts arrived seven days later to see how I was adapting and laughed at my outfit. They told me Christmas was over and I had to find something else to wear. During my second shopping trip, they came with me and helped me to pick more “appropriate” clothing.

Jessica: Wow! Most people who live here avoid the malls during that time of year due to the bedlam. I couldn’t imagine what you must have gone through. So, how did you celebrate the holidays the following year?

Frey: Alone. I had just told my Mission Commander from the Space Service that I didn’t plan on returning to Ginnun, my home planet. Why would I return to a planet where people have no emotional connection to each other? Those I thought to be my friends stabbed me in the back. Sorry, that is still a bitter topic.

Jessica [wanting to give Frey a hug]: No worries. Although emotions can be bothersome sometimes, I can’t imagine living on a planet without them. So how do you plan on spending your holidays this year?

Frey: Well, hopefully in the company of a lovely lady named Carrie.

Jessica [groaning inside]: Can you tell us about Carrie?

Frey: She’s a paediatric nurse, has the most amazing blue eyes, and is my date for tomorrow night.

Jessica [trying to stop starring at Frey’s own amazing eyes]: And how long have you known this Carrie?

Frey: I’ve never met her. Tomorrow will be our first date, but I plan on it being the first of many. She needs what I can give her, and I hope she’ll want me just the same.

Jessica [still groaning inside, but wishing Frey the best]: Okay, one last question. What is the one thing you cannot do without on the holidays?

Frey: That’s easy. It’s two things really. The first is the red suit I bought that first year here. I always wear it at the Christmas party for the construction company I started when I first arrived here. I love seeing the joy on the children’s faces when they sit on my knee telling me their holiday wishes. And second is the Marshmallow Squares one of my crew makes. She brings them in for everyone to try, but only during the holidays. They’re a mixture of peanut butter and mini marshmallows.

Jessica [stomach rumbling]: Sounds delicious. Do you think you can get me the recipe?

Frey: Sure, I’ll send it to you. Now, is this over, because I need to get to work?

Jessica [standing]: Yes, thank you so much Frey for allowing this interview. I hope your date with Carrie goes well.

Frey: Thank you as well. It’s nice to find someone not afraid to talk to an alien. I hope Carrie will feel the same way.

Jessica: Will you let me know how it goes?

Frey: Sure, I’ll let you know when I sent you the recipe. I’ve really got to go. Bye.

And here's the recipe he sent me... How the date went? Well, you'll have to read Celestial Seduction to find out. ;)

Marshmallow Squares

1 pkg butterscotch chipits
¼ cup margarine
½ cup peanut butter
2 cups mini marshmallows

Melt first three ingredients over boiling water (double boiler).
Once melted, mix in marshmallows.
Put in square cake pan and let set in refrigerator.

Celestial Seduction
Sci-Fi Erotic Romance

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.

Love Baseball? Check out WILD PITCH by Gayl Taylor @gaylschat #1NS @DecadentPub #MF

WILD PITCH by Karyn Gerrard and Gayl Taylor

Published By: Decadent Publishing Company, LLC

Published: Oct 02, 2014

ISBN # 9781613337523
Word Count: approx 15,000 1 Night Stand Series

BLURB:  When recently divorced Connie arranges a wild 1Night Stand date for her widowed best friend, Nicole, she’s only got her friend’s happiness in mind. But one glance at the gorgeous younger man waiting at the Cougar Cave convinces Connie to seize the opportunity to act out her own secret fantasy—a three-way—if Nicole is up for the challenge. After all, she doesn’t even know about the original plan.

Cut from his Double-A baseball team, all Barrett Michaels wants to do is drown his sorrows. But he’s already paid for a 1Night Stand, and with the arrangements made, he decides to go through with it in hopes it will give him one night of happiness before figuring out what to do with his future. Though he asked for an experienced older woman, he receives not one, but two beautiful women, who offer a night of mind-blowing, sensual pleasure.

Can Madame Eve’s special brand of magic ease the pain and tear down the walls surrounding the hearts of three lonely people?

EXCERPT: Connie Hollingsway had just found the meat filling for her hero sandwich. As far as she was concerned, the man met all the requirements she’d requested from Madame Eve, and he sat in the exact location where she’d been informed he’d be. Connie cast a quick glance toward her best friend, Nicole Sullivan, and amended her thought to, our hero sandwich. After all, she’d planned the evening for Nikki, as she could use the diversion. Truth be told, so could Connie.
Bass from inane techno music reverberated off the wood-paneled walls of the Cougar Cave. The club buzzed with excitement, pulsating with the promise of sex and the certain knowledge that one-night stands were the main item on the snack menu.
Connie’s gaze slid back to the hottie sitting alone in a booth directly across from them. The guy, in a word, exuded perfection. Ascertaining his age proved difficult under the flashing strobe lights, since he sat underneath a neon sign for Budweiser that cast a reddish glow over his stunningly gorgeous face.
She’d asked for a ruggedly handsome male under thirty, and the hunk seemed to fit the bill. His milk chocolate-colored, tousled hair had an I-just-rolled-out-of-bed appearance. Sexy. Like most young guys, he had scruffy whiskers, but her keen eye observed the delectable cleft in his well-shaped chin. Three empty beer bottles and a half-full glass sat in front of him, and he waved to the waiter for more.
A sly smile curved her mouth. She’d been told, via e-mail from Madame Eve, that the “man under the Budweiser sign” would be game for a one-night stand with an older woman. Drunk enough, he might even be open and willing to consider Connie’s shocking, but sensual suggestion. Warming Nikki up to the idea might prove a challenge though.
Connie had been about to speak, but the words died in her throat the moment he rose, shook off his leather jacket, and hung it on the coatrack on the back of the bench seat. Her mouth dropped in shock, but she quickly recovered. Taller than she’d first imagined, he stood at least a few inches over six feet. A skin-tight black T-shirt hugged his powerful physique. Tucked into a pair of incredibly tight blue jeans, it showcased his torso to sculpted excellence. Denim strained across rock-hard thighs, a muscular, ass and—her held breath whooshed out and ended in a moan—showed off an impressive package. Man-meat was sharpened into hardened precision, enough to rival the marble statues of Greek gods. Even better than she could’ve hoped for.
She had to get a closer look.

This fall, take a trip to the space station or another planet for only 99¢! #scifirom #99cents @jsubject

Hello readers! I hope you are all doing well. It's fall here in Canada, time for crunching leaves, Thanksgiving turkey (we celebrate Thanksgiving the second Monday in October), getting ready for Halloween, and something most of us dread, cooler temperatures. We had to scrape frost off the windows of our vehicles for the first time of the season yesterday morning. It won't be long before the dreaded "S" word falls to the ground.

This is last winter. Hopefully we're spared a little this year.

But fall is also a time for cuddling up with a good book. And I have two titles on sale during October for only 99¢. Here's more about them...

Another Night, Another Planet

Erotic Sci-Fi Romance

Limited by status…

Ava is a housekeeper aboard Star Spirit, a luxury cruise ship travelling between the Milky Way and the Belvarian System. Coming from a middle-class family on Earth, she is considered by passengers as nothing more than an object to be tossed away when they’re done with her.

Shunned because of his lineage…

Banned from several planets across the universe, Nate struggles to run his interstellar shipping business. But the DNA of an exterminated race runs through his blood, giving him a diluted form of their powers, and leaving him labeled as a terrorist.

Both searching for the one…

Through her 1Night Stand dating service, Madame Evangeline matches these two together for a celestial escape on the pleasure planet, Elatia.

Will Ava and Nate find what they’re looking for, or will their date be just another night on another planet?

A 1Night Stand in the Capital? Post by Jessica E. Subject #1NS #boxset #99cents

It's been an exciting and busy summer for me. I have a box set and audio book releasing soon, had a box set already release, and I celebrated three years published with my first 1Night Stand title, Celestial Seduction.

With my first 1Night Stand story, I decided to set it in Ottawa, the capital of Canada. Why? To be different. There were many stories already set in the flagship location of Las Vegas and others in more tropical locations. I wanted to include a setting with colder temperatures, and sexy blue aliens. Okay, so maybe the aliens aren't part of Ottawa, or Canada, but I wanted to include one anyway.

Here's an excerpt from CELESTIAL SEDUCTION:

“You do not belong here. You can do things the people on Earth can’t. You don’t even look like them. This human image that you’re hiding under is just that—an image.” His face became red. “You’re not one of them. Take it off! If they find out….”

“They won’t. This is where I belong, now let me off this ship.” Frey didn’t once regret his decision to stay on Earth. He’d had enough of the ship, his former Commander and the conversation. With more pressing matters, he needed to leave. “I’m late for a meeting.”

The MC’s eyes narrowed. “What kind of meeting?”

For a second, he hesitated. “A date.” That kind of fraternization was expressly forbidden by the Space Service, but they no longer held any control over him.

The MC stumbled backward. He pushed a hand against the wall to regain his balance. “You’ve chosen an Earthling as a mate?” He clearly understood the implication.

“I have.” He’d yet to meet the woman, but the picture he’d seen of her caused his heart to thump faster, his blood to flow to places only used in mating. He examined the ship for possible exits so he could get to her.

The ship lurched as it dropped in elevation. Within minutes it landed and the ramp door opened.

“Get out!” His former Mission Commander all but shoved him out of the ship. “I will inform the Chancellor you are dead.”

Although the old Ginnunian meant his words to hurt, Frey smiled as he stepped off the ramp. Staring across the recently harvested cornfield, he spotted his car parked on the side of the road. He rushed across the frosted dirt and corn stalks toward it, with the light reflected from the moon illuminating his path. He’d finally ensured no one from Ginnun would return for him.

Right now, you can get Celestial Seduction on its own, or as part of my 1Night Stand box set. The box set is only $0.99 at the following locations:

And if you enjoy the 1Night Stand stories, check out another $0.99 box set that has 1NS titles from twenty-one authors, and includes another story of mine, Satin Sheets in Space. It releases Friday, August 8!

Happy Weekend Reading!

Tied up at a hockey game? Yep, Jessica E. Subject goes there. #eroticromance #1NS

As we are in round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs, hockey is discussed among Canadians more and more. On the streets, we see cars with flags of the driver's favorite team. People place team flags in their windows, and jerseys are worn EVERYWHERE.

When I wrote my fifth 1Night Stand story for Decadent Publishing, Sudden Breakaway, I wanted to combine so many things in one story. And hockey was one of those things. Although it is not mentioned in the story due to copyright reasons, the game is between the Ottawa Senators (my fav team) and the Washington Capitals. And though neither the hero or heroine in the story are hockey players, their encounter is hot enough to melt the ice.

Here's an excerpt:

“You’re beautiful, Paige.” He drew his finger across her body, starting from the top of her thong, up past her navel, and in between her breasts. He circled her erect buds with his thumbs. “I’m going to enjoy teasing you until you’re begging me to let you come. Now, to find some restraints. I’ll have to improvise since I don’t have my cuffs with me.”

Her breath caught. She couldn’t respond, couldn’t think straight, her mind focused on Jared’s gentle touch.

He trailed his fingers down her sides and then her legs, slipping one under the edge of her thighs highs. “These will work perfectly.”

In one swift movement, he scooped her up and carried her across the room. She wrapped her hands around his neck, startled by the motion. He laughed. “Afraid I’m going to drop you?”

“No.” She loosened her grip. “You caught me by surprise.”

He nestled his face into her neck, licking and sucking her sensitive skin. And as fast as he’d picked her up, Jared set her down in the cushioned leather chair. With a deep breath, she braced for his next move. The wicked smile on his face sent warmth straight to her core. Was she ready for what he had planned?

Jared fingered the edges of her stockings before rolling both down her legs, his touch like fire on her skin. “Are you sure this is what you want?” Clasping her wrists to the arms of the chair, he drew his tongue along her inner thigh, straight toward her pussy.

“Yes,” she moaned, moisture flooding her already wet panties. “Oh God, yes.”

“Good.” He shifted her to the edge of the chair, touching his body.

Leaning forward, she met his mouth, moaning as his tongue played deliciously with hers. Skimming his hands away from her waist, he continued to feed the passion threatening to consume her from their kiss. And then the tightness around her wrists as Jared bound her to the chair. A new rush of excitement washed over her.
She jerked back, struggling to breathe.

“You like being tied up, don’t you?”

“Yes,” she moaned. Even though she had submitted to him, she felt more alive than she ever had in her life.

When his former Commander’s wife shows up to give him a reprieve, he jumps at the chance for a break, and to visit his former squad.
