Local Booksignings and Reader Events

One thing I love to do are reader events and booksignings, so I'm excited to be participating in two signings that are coming up in November. There's also an awesome reader event coming up in May 2016—that's a ways out, but you'll want to book your spot for that one now.

First will be Words, a book festival in London Ontario that includes a booksigning event. I'll be on a panel with Zoe York and Carolyn Arnold about Self-Publishing for Genre Fiction Writers at 11 AM on November 7, then be signing from 10 - 4. The event will be held at Covent Garden Market in downtown London, Ontario.

I usually offer show specials when I do a booksigning like this - if you buy linked books, you get a discount. When you buy a bundle, you also get a tote bag to carry the books home!

If you plan to attend and want to ensure you get specific titles from me, I have a pre-order form right here. You can pay in advance, or just know how much cash to bring. (I don't take credit cards.)

Next up will be Bookapalooza in Whitby Ontario on November 21. This promises to be a fun event—partly because I know a lot of other authors who will be in attendance!—and a good day. I have my fingers crossed that there won't be any snow that day!

Once again, I have a pre-order form online, and you can find it right here.

Finally, there's Eve's Romancing the Capital reader event, which will be next May in Ottawa. Eve has added some workshops on Thursday afternoon, and I'll be teaching one, as well as participating in a panel discussion about publishing.

There are a lot of fun events for readers on Friday and Saturday (including my event Knights Vs. Dragons, and a panel discussion called Dragons are a Girl's Best Friend, which I'm looking forward to) plus author/reader speed-dating AND a booksigning on Saturday.

Check your calendar and book yourself in to this event, which will be a great time. I'll have a pre-order form for books closer to the date.

I couldn't talk about events without inviting the boys!

At the shows, it'll be easy to find me—because the boys travel with me.

I hope to see you at one or all of these events!

Halloween Happy or Haunting?

Canadian Romance, Eh?

Blog Post by: Kali Willows

Halloween Happy or Haunting?

Fall is my absolute most favourite time of the year! The brilliant colours of the leaves as they change, the cool breeze, sipping hot tea as I sit on the swing under the maple tree and the harvest of adored butternut squash and everything pumpkin! How does this Canadian Author celebrate fall? In every way possible.

From a family point of view, we begin with our Canadian Thanksgiving, complete with stuffed turkey and all the fixings, and a homemade pumpkin pie with whip cream. Shopping for the anticipated Halloween costumes is always a blast, but the choices have become so vast, we all have difficulty deciding on just one.

More festivities carry forward with the happy and gentle portion of preparing for the beloved Halloween. With young kids who frighten easily, we indulge in wagon rides through the farm to hand pick pumpkins from a patch, then we wander through the tall, dry maze of corn stalks (in the daytime for the kids) and find our way through the labyrinth by answering trivia questions at every post. Then, we shop in the farmer’s market, sampling every type of homemade fudge imaginable, even Praline…I kid you not! Hot apple cider wards off the chills that settle in your bones, then a bond fire to warm ourselves along with S’mores to finish a perfect family day. Soon, the pumpkin carving will begin!

As far as adult fun, this author ventured west to visit friends who create a spectacular haunted forest that screamed spooky complete with, rattling chains, blood curdling screams, glowing pumpkins, terrifying props that lash out at you and all the bells and whistles. They terrorize you with freakish, sadistic clowns jumping out to grab you and bizarre aliens, topped off with a blazing bond fire in the black of night, as we finally relax with some awesome rock tunes. I will say, this year’s scare did not improve my affinity for clowns in the least!

Let’s not forget my highly anticipated stop at Starbucks for the long coveted Pumpkin Spice Latte, *pause for satisfied sigh.* this author has had a blast, and we’re only half way through October! In Ontario, we are fortunate to have so many incredible farms to visit, the selection of pumpkins to carve is endless and the bounty of harvest and baked goods with hot cider makes every fall day and adventure to cherish.

The fact that Halloween falls on a Saturday this year means balancing Trick or Treating with choosing which fantastic costume party to attend.

So tell us, how do you like to celebrate fall and Halloween?

Canadian living, at it’s best.

Happy Haunting, Happy Reading,
Happy Halloween!

Thankful for my home and native land

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians across the country! After travelling six hours on Friday to visit with family for the weekend, and then making the return trip on Sunday, I am thankful for many things. I am thankful to still have my grandmother and her husband still alive. I am thankful for the ability to visit them. I am extremely thankful to live in such a beautiful country. And I've decided to share some pictures with you. Enjoy!

In the spring, both sides have much more water flowing.

Upper falls at Duchesnay Falls.
We went hiking up beyond the steel walking bridge to find these falls.

Not taken over Thanksgiving weekend, but a wonderful site.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
